Notes:
Rhizomatous herb; rhizomes long; base of stem swollen and forming a bulb-like organ with dark brown investing fibres. Leaves somewhat glaucescent. Spikes flattened and spikelets distichous. Glumes bright chestnut-brown with scarious margins. Dense stands covering many square metres, only those in damp silty depressions flowering.
