On peat soil amongst stems of Baumea rigida in pakihi sedge fernland; Seen fruiting only at Tiropahi only at this one site (in several hours of searching), where it is shaded by Baumea rigida stems. Sterile material of Pleurophascum is common on the Tiropahi pakihi in more open sites. The rough cover values for dominant vascular species at collection site are: Baumea rigida 30%; Gleichenia dicarpa 50%; Gahnia rigida 10% and Leptospermum scoparium scattered.
Notes:
C. fr. Capsules 8-10 mm diam., discoid, bright orange-red when fresh; with spore sacs 2.5-2.7 mm diam.
Specimen notes
Supplementary remarks:
c.fr. In the one fruiting stem I have examined most carefully, I am convinced the femaile branches arise by lateral branching. I have not made a longitudinal seciton of a branch base.
