Herbarium history:
This specimen (? isotype) was herb. KW Allison no. 3738; Allison received it from NJ Butler and in turn sent it on to Sainsbury. Allison states: "JH Ardley sent the gathering to NJ Butler who sent it to me & it was sent on Mr. Sainsbury, except for the one sterile stem retained here. There was only one capsule. KWA." There is a discrepancy between the collection date given here (Dec. 1949) and that cited in the protologue (13 Jan. 1949). Also the locality is cited as "Okatira" in the protologue--an obvious error. The protologue states that the "type" (Holotype) is in herb. Sainsbury no. 15,653.
Type:
Type of P. grandiglobum var. decurrens Sainsbury, Rev. Bry. Lichen. n.s. 21: 216 (1952), fide KW Allison.
