Relic of cultivation, forest margin near cottage.
Notes:
Leptomorph bamboo forming a dense stand but with rhizomes spreading beyond main culms for c.3-4m. Habit open and diffuse. Culms to c.6m high and 2.5cm diameter,deep green or dark green in first year, later shining black; white supranodal ring. Culm sheaths mauvish-brown or greenish- mauve, with dark mottling, at least towards apex; sheath lamina ± purple; auricles and oral bristles present on large culm sheaths, reducing on smaller culms until both are absent on very small culms away from main stand. Lateral branchlets eventually black. leaves glaucous beneath, ± shining green above.
