Habitat:
Steep bank above road, open scrub.
Notes:
Succulent subshrubs, main stem short and more or less woody. Leaves concentrated towards ends, to about 15cm x 1-3.3cm, canaliculate above and flattened, slightly to strong rounded beneath, acute or mucronate, tending amplexicaul, the whole leaf linear to narrow oblong, occasionally oblong or oblanceolate, green or white farinose. Scape to about 35cm high, often flushed purple and mottled on exposed sides, sometimes whitish farinose. Flowers pendent. Calyx farinose or efarinose; sepals triangular. Corolla 2.7-4.2cm long, orange, orange-red or pale greenish-yellow, shining except on outer side of some orange-flowered plants; lobes 1.8-2.3cm long, strongly reflexed, from equal (orange flowers) to greater than (yellow flowers) tube. Stamens 1.8-2.2cm, i.e. free part above basal hairy tufts, slightly greater than style and stigma. Glands yellow, wider than long, and more or less concave above. Many plants over about one third of a hectare. Most plants have leaves as described but a few of normal suborbicular shape. Selection from the narrow-leaved population and the description above embraces most of the variation as do the specimens.
