Dark green tussock. Sheaths dark brown. Utricles scabrid. Leaves up to 7 per culm. Matches scabra but I am finding it hard to demarcate scabra from leptostachya on Banks Peninsula. Banks Peninsula Botanical Survey Plot 0835.
