Modified, partly open area in middle of motu. Cultivation relic.
Notes:
Large tuberous-rooted herb with short erect stem stock. Leaves ± erect, at least until full maturity, to c. 2 m high, rather chlorotic in nearly all plants seen on Suwarrow. 2 or 3 plants flowering. Stalk of inflorescence c. 20 cm high. Spathe c. 2.8 x 6.5 cm, opening out and bending backwards eventually, pale green, flushed purple inside; apex acuminate and c. 7.5 cm long. Spadix c. 26 cm long white or pale brownish (sterile part); sterile part 4-15 cm long (irregular at base); apex subacute, the rest somewhat laterally compressed and c. 1.7 cm across maximum width. Male part 8-9 cm long, (including basal constriction). Female part 2-3 cm long, whitish.
