Small, soft wooded tree with simple, stout trunk bearing prominent leaf scars. Leaves mainly in a large terminal crown, the lamina ± glaucescent beneath. Peduncles very short and stout. Flowers and fruit details from different trees which appeared identical vegetatively. Calyx lobes 2-3 mm long. Petals white, 6-6.5 x 1-1.3 cm, ± oblong but upper half c. 3 mm narrower, also upper half reflexing. Ovary greenish-white. Stigmas 1.3-1.5 cm across the 3, strongly fimbriate. Fruit to 16 x 10 cm, ± obovoid, orange skin and inside, with 5 slight rounded ridges; flesh very sweet. Seed black. Commonly cultivated. A typical female tree.
