Dense, small tree 2.5-3 m high and with a ± rounded crown. Trunk smooth. Leaves dark green, scarcely shining, lime-scented when bruised. Spines present on vegetative shoots and main branches, especially lower down. Fruit dark shining green, subglobose, usually slightly flattened vertically, c. 2.7 cm long x 3 cm wide (probably not quite mature because fruits on other trees slightly larger, c. 3.5 cm); flesh green and acid to taste. "Limes are common Penrhyn and easily the most successful Citrus".
