Small tree 2.5-3 m high, with stout branches spreading widely and rather stiffly. Leaves dark green above and dull, with whitish main veins. Syconium 4-4.5 cm long and 5-5.5 x 4-4.5 cm acoss the top, ± broad ovoid but flattened laterally and rather oblique at base. Carpels bright pink (inside) and sweet; skin becoming shining purple; outside dark red. Penrhyn name mona mona, literally sweet and beautiful.
