Shrub c. 2 m high with long arching branches. Flowers directed sideways or obliquely downwards usually. Corolla c. 5.7-6.3 x 4.7-8.5 cm wide (i.e. each petal) towards the outside of the corolla. Petals broadly deltoid-obvate, recurving, deep crimson-scarlet with glossy central area, with many short oblong to ovate lobes rounded at apices, crimson. Column 8-8.5 cm (i.e. to the stigma (5)), all light rose. Filaments 6-7 mm long. This plant is said to represent the old long-cultivated form on Penrhyn.
