Waste place with scattered Cocos, outside garden areas.
Notes:
Large spreading tree 10-12 m high with massive trunk. Bark dark, not collected. Leaves glossy green, dark above, with cream midrib and main veins; petiole often purple. Flowers in clusters. Petals 7-8 cm long, white, 2.5-3 cm wide. Stamens 8.5-10 cm long; filaments with lower ⅔rd white; upper ⅓rd rose. Fruit broad ovoid, shallowly 4-lobed with rounded lobes, to 10 x 6.5 cm, i.e. much smaller than the larger ones in the Southern Cooks. Probably originally planted. One tree only.
