Habitat:
Ocean side of motu, coastal forest margin at top of beach.
Notes:
Small tree with widespreading habit and c. 5 m high; prop or stilt roots numerous. Leaves drooping from about halfway. Leaves green, slightly glaucous when young; margins serrulate and very prickly. Fruiting syncarps pendent, nearly globose or subglobose, to c. 16 x 13 cm; largest phalanges 7 x 4 cm across apex, more ususally 4-5 cm diameter. Abundant, especially towards the ocean side of the motu where Cocos fewer.
