Valley bottom, base of cascade on volcanic dyke. Wet place.
Notes:
Rhizomatous plant, the rhizomes fairly thick, although not as much as cultivars grown for the "tubers". `Fafa' is a leaf taro used for "ruku". Plants able to ascend the margins of the cascades etc., by long slender brown "runners". Leaves to c. 75 x 47 cm, and c. 60 cm from apex of lamina to sinus. Lamina glaucous, lacking red spot above petiole insertion. Common or very common in these restricted areas of swamp or wet ground below dripping rocks.
