Erect annual herbs to c.2m high but often much less in poor soil, usually with single stem beneath inflor. Whole plant +/- purple. Stems bright crimson-purple. Leaves deeppurplish-green above, paler beneath. Young inflor. mealy grey-purple. See also Suppl.label.

Supplementary remarks:
Mature bracts crimson-purple as are older leaves. Common. Came in via imported soil.
