Leaves with thick coriaceous texture and prominent venation. Leaves typically dish-shaped. Dominant understory species. Entity quite reminiscent of M. melchior but female fruits, P.de Lange 1743, smaller, not down-curved and spadices not widely spaced. Similar forms to this I have collected on South'west Island and North'east Island alongside M. melchior s.s. in the Three Kings Group. (see CHR collections)
Observed species:
Geniostoma rupestre
Metrosideros excelsa
Planchonella costata
