Stems c.1m. Tuberous-rooted perennial herb. Tubes ± broadly cylindrical, watery inside (i.e. dahlia-like), edible (just). Base of stem purple; petioles purplish; young leaves purplish. Does not flower. AErial parts very susceptible to frost. Obtained locally as "yacon".
