Abundance:
Abundant
Altitudes:
from 1480m
Habitat:
Alpine boggy pools with Juncus articulatus, Eleocharis sp., Craspedia sp,., Carex gaudichaudiana, Climacium dendroides; small alpine basin on E facing slope.
Abundance:
Abundant
Keywords:
Alpine; Bog; Sunny; Wet
Notes:
Abundant in depressions at margins of pools; local. (This is a difficult collection to name confidently, in part because of lack of vinaceous pigments which are typical of C. sarmentosum. The dry leaves are distinctly striolate-suggestive of C. sarmentosum. The upper laminal cells are mostly less than 60 µm long (rather short for the species) and c.4-6 µm wide (slightly wider than usual). However, in mid-leaf, the laminal cells are quite firm-walled and distinctly porose. Leaves 2.0-2.2 x 0.7-0.8 mm-within the normal range of N.Z. C. sarmentosum. The strongly striolate & narrow leaves, the firm-walled, relatively narrow, and distinctly porose mid-laminal cells preclude reference of this collection to C. richardsonii, as I did in 1993.
