On coarse basalt rocks amongst short ferns and grasses, under relatively open Tawa forest.

Notes:
Associated with H. flexuosum but distinct from that species. Rhacis wing never crisped as in H. flexosum, & fronds with a much darker pigmentation. Confined to dark sites but not merging into H. Flexuosum.
