Habitat:
Top of roadside bank on margin of stand of crack willow.
Notes:
Thicket-forming shrub or small tree 3-4 m high. Specimens from fruiting shoots and adjacent saplings and young suckers. Bark [coll]. Shoots purple when young; petioles pinkish-purple. Young leaves shining reddish-brown when young, deep green and scarcely shining when mature. Sample A: Fruits (unripe) 2.4-3 x 1.6-1.9 cm, ± broadly ellipsoid and tapering to a beak-like apex, bloomy, will become blue-black when mature. Several closely situated thickets for c. 12-20 meters. Seems to correspond to a damson plum. Sample B: Specimens collected on 20 Mar 1988 had ripe fruits of same length but about 2-2.3 cm width, blue-black with bloom; flesh green, tart.
