Habitat:
Base of terrace on stony soil above Waiau River.
Notes:
Small tree c. 5 m high. Trunk stout; bark blackish (coll). Habit dense. Leaves slightly shining above; usually ± folded inwards. Fruit 6-8 mm diam., globular dark red, becoming black, glossy, very astringent to taste, juice dark purple. Abundant & dominant along terrace side. Specimen from a tree at northern end.
