Habitat:
Fairly steep sheltered bank in semi-shade a few metres a.s.l. Adventive.
Notes:
Arborescent, succulent shrub; trunks to 2.5cm diameterand c.1.5m high, often much less. Plants of varying ages from small seedlings upwards. Branches few and short. Leaves in terminal rosettes, those on main non-flowering shoots to c.30cm diameter; rosettes flattened across apex. Lvs to c. 20x 4.8cm, obovate-spatulate, thin (c.2mm thick) green, flat; margins green; apex apiculate. Stem scars brown. Fls in huge terminal pyramidal with pointed apex, c.40x27cm in specimen collected. Bracts still all present, infl. branches & calyx glabrous. Calyx lobes 1.2-1.4mm long, triangular. Petals 10-11 in number, c.7x2mm, linear-oblong, golden. Stamens 5.5-7mm long, yellow (including both whorls) Carpels yellow. Scales 0.5-0.7mm across, ± rectangular-cuneate. A considerable number of plants.
