Notes:
C.fr. Associated with Racomitrium crispulum. (I have mounted AJF 8285 (ex Lake Rotoiti, Nelson Lakes Nat. Park) and find the median laminal cells of veg. leaves to have between 1 and 4 papillae, and the apical cells of vegetative leaves to be mostly truncate or forked by papillae. The veg. leaves here are mostly not reflexed and therefore I conclude that this specimen is true Hedwigia ciliata. (AJF 8285 has the leaf hair points less papillose at their apices than below...and therefore I have not seriously considered that it could be var. leucophaea. Allan Fife, Jan 2000.)
