an extremely reduced form. By my interpretation, highly reduced Cratoneuropsis from ± xeric sites had wide-spreading leaves (esply stem leaves), often with a sense of being slightly squarrose, broader and more delicate appearing leaves. By contrast in Amblystegium varium the leaves tend to be more erect to erect-secund, and norrower and firmer in appearance.

This is a duplicate of AK 179791. Paraphylia present: uniseriate (or biseriate at base and uniseriate above), 4-12 cells long and mostly 65-150 µm in length. The abundance of paraphyllia seems to vary greatly from stem to stem in this collection. I have seen more paraphyllia from stems in the AK duplicate than in the CHR duplicate. The CHR duplicate bears the collection number "J.K. Bartlett 56."
