In the one fruiting stem I have examined most carefully, the perichaetial branches arise by lateral branching. The lateral branches were confirmed by longitudinal section.

Basionym: P. grandiglobum var. decurrens Sainsb.
C.fr.; capsules 3-3.5 mm diam., globose when immature but the more mature capsules becoming flatenned on bottom and ± discoid; rostrum 0.65-0.8 mm; setae 12-13 mm; leaves very weakly decurrent. This is the smallest-capsuled NZ material that I have seen to date. There is no suggestion piliferous leaf apices and margins are erect.
