Large tree >20m. Bark grey, fissured, very hard (coll). Young shoots green. Buds reddish-brown. Needles ± directed forwards. Cones with prickly umbo, remaining on tree for some time after dehiscence, falling to leave basal scales behind.(See Cone Collection)
