Supplementary remarks:
Small shrub about 2-5 ft high bushy, flowers not obtained fully opened; but appear to be in small catkin like spikes; sometimes once branched; in the anils of the leaves, towards ends of branches; each flower appears covered by a single bract; some opened when specimens fresh showed as near as could be seen, an ovary with thrice cut style, stamens uncertain but near 5, & an apparent want of of petals. The shrub is very common growing on cliff faces particularly but also to some extent close to top of cliffs, round a great part of Motuihi Island coast in Hauraki Gulf. One or two specimens also noticed near top of Rangitoto in scrub, but seen nowhere else.
