Notes:
Ex Herbarium J.K. Bartlett, No.22102. (Campylopodium medium - mixed with Ditrichum ?brevirostre. I now believe that the fertile material here is merely Campylopodium medium, and neither a new species of Microdus (as I believed and annotated this specimen in Nov. 1999), nor a new species of Dicranella (as suggested by Bartlett). I continue to be somewhat bothered by the nature of the peristome teeth and the apparent lack of stomata in this specimen. I described the teeth (in Nov. 1999) as: "undivided, inserted ± at mouth, pale brown below, ± hyaline above, c. 135 x 30 µm, coarsely striate throughout." I believe the apparently undivided nature of the teeth (which is not consistent with Campylopodium) is possibly a function of the age of the capsules I have examined; probably the teeth have fragmented in this material. The teeth also coarsely striate, rather than papillose-striolate as normal for Campylopodium medium. However, all other features of this sparse collection point convincingly to the common and widespread Campylopodium medium. Allan Fife, May 2000.)
