Supplementary remarks:
According to published classifications, the lower specimen (B) best conforms to Kunzea ericoides var ericoides. However as indicated in Harris,W.; Porter, N.G. and Dawson, M.I. 1992: Observations on biosystematic relationships of Kunzea sinclairii and on an intergeneric hybrid Kunzea sinclairii x Leptospermum scoparium. N.Z J. Bot 30: 213-230, the lower specimen is distinct from K. ericoides in the southern regions of New Zealand. Southern populations mostly have much smaller leaves. The specimen does not conform to what I regard as typical of K. ericoides var. linearis (Kirk) W.Harris. This variety has very narrow leaves. As indicated by Harris et al. 1992, K. sinclairii appears to be maintained as an edaphically selected taxon in disturbed areas around Mt. Hobson, Great Barrier Is, hybrids between K. sinclairii and the K. ericoides variety I allude to occur commonly.
