Habitat:
Open wet forest dominated by Metrosiderous polymorpha, M. waialealae, Antidesma platyphyllum var. hillebrandii, Syzygium, Cheirodendron, and Dicranopteris linearis and invaded by Psidium cattleianum and Melastoma candidum.
Notes:
Tree of eight ft.; young stems pale green; petioles flattened, red above, plae green below; blade glossy dark green with yellow-green midvein above, below dull, paler with yellow-green midvein; inflorescence branches and buds white; calyx pale green with apex red; corolla pinkish; stamens scarlet.
