Habitat:
horse paddock near the lake. In winter this paddock is wet but inclined to dry out in summer.
Notes:
The plant was found (with others) in the front horse paddock near the lake, on the Tutira Station homestead block. I note page 293 of "Tutira" by H. Guthrie Smith where he talks of Hypericum linarifolium & H perforatum. I wonder whether he misidentified one of his species. The specimen was collected, I think in early December 1963.
Specimen notes
Supplementary remarks:
This specimen agrees reasonably well with this North American species which has not been previously recorded from New Zealand. Would it be possible to secure this specimen for Botany Division Herbarium, as a permanent record of the first gathering of the species in New Zealand. Also, would it be possible to secure details as to (1) locality (Tutira Station?); (2) habitat; (3) collector & date of collection; (4) abundance of plant.
