Belongs to sub-genus Hymenophyllum due to absence of exserted receptacle, but presence of spinose margins. Valves minutely crenulate, indusium deeply 2- valved - sim. to H. peltatum., but pinnae segs. are not all abaxial, and frond is broad. [in pencil:] Nearest to multifidum despite lack of excerted receptacle
