Specimen notes
Voucher:
B.G. Hamlin in litt. 26/4/1963 File 21/1 [CHR] 117410 is immature but I am inclined to regard it as one of the "red" complex in which U.affinis is involved. The leaves are broader and the culms stouter than in U. Silvestris var. squamata. The tie-on label suggests U.egmontiana & this is not far out. The [male] spikelet is shorter than in egmontiana and the basal sheaths are not straw-coloured. Neither of these characters are mentioned in my description. Altogether, a single culm with an immature infl. is rather difficult.
