Supplementary remarks:
Among the most distinctive are two Nelson (CHR 406023 & 405538) collections from marl soil with lanceolate, distinctly bordered, entire leaves and long excurrent costae (to 1/3 the total leaf length), and abundant brown tubers 90-180 um diam., with cells moderately to strongly protruding. Similar material has been seen from highly calcareous soils at Ti Point, North Auckland (CHR 106581 & 106609). Further study may show this material to be specifically distinct or merely an extreme variant of Bryum linzeyi.
