Specimen notes
Public Note:
culture: CBS 116732 = ICMP = STMA 04094. 18th Fungal Foray Annotation M. Stadler 09/2004: This belongs to the D. childiae complex. Yellow stromatal pigments, internal lighter concentric zones brown, narrow and not vernicose. Aspospores are ellipsoid-inequilateral with narrowly rounded ends, slightly larger than in typical D. childiae. HPLC: Daldinal A is by far the prevailing metabolite, daldinin C, BNT and daldinol also present in traces. In agreement with PDD 78322 and PDD 43170 and further material that we obtained from Jack Rogers, who had collected it in Hawaii. New species with affinities to D. childiae. Cultured, studies in comparison with D. childiae ongoing. Annotation J. Fournier 12/2008: Several stromata illustrate well the morphological variations. Ascospores are likewise dimorphic. Included dry cultures show an anamorph with a Virgariella-like branching pattern and coarsely roughened hyphae. Annotation M. Stadler 01/2009: Jacques has confirmed what I thought when I saw this specimen first. A similar specimen from Metrosideros in Hawaii sent to me by Jack Rogers also has a Virgariella anamorph, and so does the culture I obtained, which is already deposited with PDD and CBS.
