Specimen notes
Public Note:
[JAC] It has been suggested that G. ferruginosus might be a later synonym of G. mesosporus. I am undecided. I think eccentricity of the stipe is probably quite variable and not a good character. G. ferruginosus appears to have a more pruinose cap but the micro-details are nearly the same. The most significant difference is the spores, which here do have an obvious thick perispore as described by Egon. Material identified as G. ferruginosus do not have a thick persipore. If the presence of a perispore is variable then I'd say they are the same. More recent collections of this are required.
