Specimen notes
Public Note:
[RFRM] Col. J Rawlings under mixed tea-tree - his property at Kerikeri 26-4-66. (young specimens). Pileus 3-6cms round-oblong[?] - dry- slighlty velvety. 3B4-4B5. Pores 2a5. Tubes 2mm long (young specimen). Tubes 2A6. Stipe 2A5 or 2A4, 2-3cm long, solid, 1.5-2.5 diam. Context of pileus 2A5 - very slight colour change at margins - reddish on exp to air. Smell mushroomy, taste - Joan says acid, I don't, distinctive taste initially, between fennel and piece of rimu [?] (not rotten). Chemical reactions, KOH on pileus dark, on context 6B4, NH4OH no reaction. Habitat solitary and in 2s. No spore print. Cystidia scattered, more frequent at pore mouths, unspecialised, hyaline, thin-wallled, hair-like to subcylindrical. Hymenophoral trama bilateral [...] heavily pigmentedlateral stratum hyaline, strongly divergent. Basidia hyaline, clavate, 4-spored.
J.A. Cooper, Nov. 2017
Public Note:
Hymenial cystidia are obscure, if present at all. Spores length=14.8–18.5µm (µ=16.1, σ=0.96), width=4.6–5.5µm (µ=5.0, σ=0.24), Q=2.8–3.9µm (µ=3.23, σ=0.23), n=20. The micro distinction between this and B. rawlingsii is clear on spores alone.
