Specimen notes
Public Note:
[RFRM] Pileus mahogany 8E7-8, pores 3A7, stipe 10D7-8, Spores 4C5-D5. Pileus viscid very variable in colour, varying from dark brown on top of mid yellow to orange or red. Not possible to give one colour alone. 1.5-3 inches diam, plane when older, slightly convex when younger. No indication of veil. Pores rather dull sulphure yellow when young, becoming more reddened with age, and finally red-yellow-brown, irregularly angular, less than 0.5mm diam. slightly excavated around stipe, turning blue when bruised. Stipe even or slightly expanded downward. 2i inches long by 0.75 inches diam., dry, non-viscid. [JAC] Spores length=8.4-11.0µm (µ=9.2, σ=0.69), width=4.5-5.4µm (µ=4.9, σ=0.26), Q=1.7-2.1µm (µ=1.86, σ=0.13), n=20, cystidia not observed. In McNabb's notes he had noted the similarity with Clelan's B. ovalisporus.
