Specimen notes
Public Note:
20th Fungal Foray of New Zealand Annotation J. Fournier 12/2008: Most likely an immature D. placentiformis. Annotation M. Stadler 01/2009: Confirmed. Stromata contain extraordinary amounts of daldinal A and hyposylone, which is quite typical for D. placentiformis. I wonder how this can be referred to D. eschscholzii because it does not have conspicuous concentric zones. On the other hand, we cannot be sure about the identity because we know there is an undescribed fungus in NZ that has the same HPLC profile and morphology but very small ascospores.
Public Note:
Stroma discoid pulvinate with a narrow connective, surface Dark Livid (80), with Dull green (70) pigments in KOH. Interior black, woody, radially fibrose. Immature, sterile.
J. Fournier, 12/2008
