Specimen notes
Public Note:
Note pale stem. The deeply lilac gills and minute black scurfiness (not radial lines) on cap appear to distinguish this from L. masonii and L. fibrillosa. In both those species the gills become pale on drying and here they remain violet. Separation from vilolaceonigra is more problematic. For McNabb violaceonigra has a roughened stem apex but collections do not support that as a separating factor. This appears to have filamentous cheilos (and possibly pleuro), altho, as noted in other collections, these can be transient. The type of L. lilacina does not have them (do any collections currently lableled violaconigra have them?). 4-spored. length=6.3–8.4µm (µ=7.3, σ=0.48), width=6.1–7.7µm (µ=6.8, σ=0.44), Q=1.0–1.2µm (µ=1.08, σ=0.05), n=20. Note the yellowish stem, which seems to be consistent.
