Specimen notes
Public Note:
Cap tp 5mm, stem to 4cm. Deep crimson all over, arising from a hairy basal disk. Basal hairs crimson (not brown at all), gill edge red. Gills drying white and contrasting with cap. Exuding red pigment into melzers. Spores amyloid 8x4, occasional larger spored indicates perhaps 2 & 4 -spored. Cheilocystidia lageniform and not awl-shaped. Not ura or mariae! Unfortunate there isn't a macro picture as this is clearly M. minirubra and there is only 1 record in PDD. Note that Maas Geesteranus suspects M. minirubra is identical with Cruentomyces, and indeed the micro features are identical. This must have been a dry Cruentomycena.
