Specimen notes
Public Note:
Cap to 4cm diam. Stem 4mm at apex, to 8mm at base. x 50mm long. Spores hyaline, dextrinoid when mature, collapsed endospore bullet shaped, (length=5.4–6.6µm (µ=5.9, σ=0.33), width=2.7–3.7µm (µ=3.3, σ=0.28), Q=1.5–2.2µm (µ=1.82, σ=0.20), n=11) those on cap tissue dextrinoid (but also non dextrinoid spores 9 x 4 present?), cap tissue clamped, a cutis, with extra-cellular pigment, frutibody not noticebly darkening on drying. This is Stevenson's Pluteus purpuratus and I can understand why Egon, on basis of fragmentary type material, placed it in Lepiota, but this is a Rhodocollybia - should be Rhodocollybia purpurata. Peter J's photos of the spores of the type show exactly the same features - dextrinoid spore content retracted into a bullet-shape, sometimes leaving entire hyaline spore outline, and sometimes wall also collapsing. Note that my Rhodocollybia sp. 'Waiora (PDD87541)' is also a synonym of Rhodocollybia purpurata.
