Specimen notes
Public Note:
tiny, black, globose fruiting bodies with well developed setae, on green leaves. Acanthostigmella has not previously been reported from NZ. There is some debate in the literature about exactly what Acanthostigmella is, but this species is morphologically typical of the genus in its classic sense (Barr 1987). There is some genetic evidence that confuses the issue around the taxonomic relationships of this genus - it is based on a single specimen of a species that is morphologically somewhat unusual within the genus.
