Specimen notes
Public Note:
gills strongly emarginate. smell mealy, sweet. Taste very mealy. Gills quite thick. Friable ring low on stem. With lamellae in single series of unequal length. Cap and flesh unchanging in NH4OH. Spores small, 4um, subglobose, weakly dextrinoid, taking BCB pigment and occasionally metachromatic, thick walled, minutely spiny! 4-spored. Cap a clamped cutis, hyphae to 6um. Cystidia not observed. In KOH the spores might be very lightly pigmented brown. Clearly not a Lepiota but what? Sequence says Limacella, but perhaps closer to Catatrama? See alos Wallace http://mushroomobserver.org/46000?q=grH and http://mushroomobserver.org/46138?q=2dKsY. Acrophysalides not observed in gill trama. Subhymenium cullular, bilateral. mediostratum present but not always clear Clamps present. Acrophysalides in stem (fee) present not well differentiated from geeral hyphal system (ie no thin 'feeder' hyphae). Sequence close to L. piterika sensu Gates from Tasmania, which Tom May says is not L. piterika sensu stricto from dry sclerophyll forests.
