Specimen notes
Public Note:
Assumed to be anamorph of M. coacervata. Olive green tendrils associated with pycnidia on lower surface (Asteromella state?). Conidia 10 x 1.7um. Culture with hyaline cladosporium-like ramoconidia. (actually a Ramularia eucalypti contaminanat it later turned out). The type of M. coacervata was from Coprosma in Wellington and teleomorph described along with presumed anamorph. Genbank sequence are based on CBS113391 which was from Russell on C. robusta, and presumably the teleomorph (later re-identified by CBS as Septoria coprosmae). However, the ITS sequence for the isolate derived here is identical to R. eucalypti EF394860 and not M. coacervata (ie a contaminant and being compared with the wrong CBS name anyway). A later attempt to isolate Septoria coprosmae from another Coprosma leaf-spot produced both the Septoria and the Ramularia again, as if the Ramularia is cryptic and generally present. See also records of the same thing under the name Phaeophleospora atkinsonii aff., which, along with P. atkinsonii sensu stricto is actually near Kirramyces and then perhaps with a Terratosphaeria-like teleomorph, which might have been the original 'Mycosphaerella.'
