Specimen notes
Public Note:
This cladosporium on the pocket plums is obvious. Initially I assumed it would be a common saprophyte but the current literature & collections imply there is the specific Cladosporium phyllophilum, which sequence-wise is close to a number of other fungicolous species on lichens and powdery mildews (in the C. cladosporioides complex). In this material condiophore macronematous, not geniculate, unbranched, to 80um x 4um at base. Conidia smooth, in short branched chains, mostly 4um diam. Small terminal conidia ellipsoid. Ramoconidia sometimes broad limoniform, to 12um diam, non-septate. This latter feature distinguishes it from C. phyllophilum but is only present in vivo. In vitro cultures closer to C. phyllophilum but only DNA would confrm. If so then new record for NZ. Material with 12642. ITS within clade with C. phyllophilum but no barcode gap across multiple spp.
