Public Note:
No nodules. Surface warted. I think McNabb was too broad in his acceptance of E. 'glandulosa' (=E. plana=nigricans) as varying from hyaline pustulate becoming black effused. There are surely two species here, one very dark and the other starting hyaline and finishing tan coloured. Neither of them are E. glandulosa sensu stricto (the brown turbinate species in the UK). This is perhaps Lloyd's E. novozealandicus which in turn is morphologically and phylogenetically close to E. japonica.
