Specimen notes
Public Note:
salmon in FeSO4. Red edge to gills. (dried material shows extensive purple - tawai). No smell. Taste hot. Exuding red pigment in SV Cap centre with dark granules (not cap edge). Cap a layer of spherocysts 125um over periclinal layer. Sphaerocysts appear to be weakly amyloid (must be near R. horakii?). Spores with amyloid spot (violet) and plage. Cap hairs only long in cap centre, to 80um, apex rounded, septate, arising from spherical cells, sometimes forked at base. Dried gills noticeably frosted with cystidia. Spores length=7.1-8.2µm (µ=7.8, σ=0.31), width=5.9-7.0µm (µ=6.3, σ=0.30), Q=1.1-1.3µm (µ=1.22, σ=0.05), n=20. ornamentation to 1.5um. Macrocystidia length=79.9-96.8µm (µ=89.1, σ=6.98), width=12.0-15.1µm (µ=14.0, σ=1.37), walls 1um. Cystidia walls glassy and slightly thickened. Differences to tawai are still tricky.
