Specimen notes
Public Note:
FN31 no smell or taste. Laterally attached with small pubescent stem. With 3-4 fold-like gills. Drying brown/red. Cap with a clear gymnopus like structure with broad, thick-walled, clamped hyphae with extra-cellular encrustation. Gills perhaps slightly dextrinoid. Without cheilocystidia. Gills with a few embedded rhomboidal crystals. Spores glued together, 4-spored. acuminate basidioles. This is one of the species where the spore Q factor changes dramatically with maturation. length=8.4–10.3µm (µ=9.0, σ=0.57), width=3.5–4.8µm (µ=4.1, σ=0.45), Q=1.9–2.7µm (µ=2.21, σ=0.31), n=9. A reduced gymnopid fungus. Looks similar to A. pallidum but spores different (confirmed from collections, which also show green tissue in KOH) Horak accepted M subsupinus in NZ when he put M. inversus into synonymy. This is presumably thesame taxon, and is a Gymnopus near G. androsaceus (ie Setulipes). Recombined to Gymnopus (conservatively) rather than Setulipes
