Public Note:
FN60. with deciduous spines but inner layer not reticulate. Spores smooth! With sterile base, not chambered, cells < 1mm, no separarating membrane. With capilittium and para/pseudocapilittium. Threads attached to walls and centre, not free, lycoperdon sensu cunningham, Bovista sensu Dring and Kew. Spores without pedicel. Capilitium of Lycoperdon type (not tapering and arising from knots) of brown thick walled hyphae without septa, unbranched, and hyaline hyphae (pseudocapilittium) with septa, unbranched. Exoperidium stellate. L. nitidum. M. compacta has verrucose spores. Spores here are 3.5–4.2µm (µ=3.8, σ=0.2). Has a look of L. nigrescens. Sequence says not L. nitidum and close to L. pyriforme
